AAPM&R Sponsorship Opportunity:

Annual Assembly Preconference Courses

Coding and Billing Workshop

This is a PM&R-specific, one and a half day workshop designed to educate physiatrists, office managers, office staff, and coders on current coding and billing practices. The sessions will focus on correct coding of services and procedures to assist practices in securing appropriate reimbursement for physician and practice services from third party payers and others. This will be achieved through the use of lectures, clinical vignettes, attendee participation, and question and answer sessions.

The course focuses on the proper use of Evaluation and Management codes and Documentation Guidelines, distinguishing correct coding methods for electrodiagnostic and in-office procedures, apply techniques for accurately coding interventional procedures, effectively negotiate managed care contracts, and appropriately code for physician extenders and “incident to” services.

This course attracts physicians and office staff alike and is consistently sold out, with 100 attendees.

Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

This intensive one-day course is intended to provide participants with the skills needed to begin performing diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound. Though not meant to replace supervised training, this course will involve didactics that will help the participant learn basic ultrasound principles. The hands-on portion of the course will focus on the static and dynamic ultrasound examination of the upper and lower limbs.

The course focuses on the advantages and disadvantages of diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound compared to other imaging modalities, helps users differentiate between the appearances of various tissues on diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, apply ultrasound basic concepts so as to ensure proper visualization of musculoskeletal structures, and proficiently perform a musculoskeletal diagnostic ultrasound on various upper and lower limbs.

This hands-on course is consistently sold-out. As such an online version of the course is available via AcadeME. The online course included portions of the didactic session, as well as video and ultrasound imagining introducing physicians to the concept of diagnostic ultrasound.
