Spasticity, Dystonia & Related Motor Disorders Educational Resources

AAPM&R offers several educational opportunities focused on the assessment and treatment of motor disorders commonly seen in physiatric practice.

Updates on Spasticity Assessment and Management will be presented by expert faculty including international speaker, Jörg Wissel MD from the Kliniken GmbH Beelitz, Neurological Rehabilitation Clinic in Germany. This live course will highlight the practical assessment and comprehensive treatment of spasticity and related disorders through lively discussions, interactive and hands-on sessions, including a live patient assessment. This one and a half day pre-conference course will be held on Tuesday, November 2 (two days prior to the 2010 AAPM&R Annual Assembly).

Can't make it to the live course? AAPM&R offers other products addressing spasticity and related motor disorders including a self-assessment examination and online course to provide the opportunity to learn at home during free time and to meet requirements for Part II Self-Assessment of ABMS Maintenance of Certification™ and licensure. Academy members receive a sizable discount on all AAPM&R educational offerings.

Self-Assessment Examinations

The Academy’s new slate of Spasticity, Dystonia and Related Motor Disorders educational products also includes a new MOC approved Self-Assessment Examination for Practitioner (SAE-P). This learning activity enables you to assess your need for continuing medical education on the assessment and treatment of motor disorders commonly seen in physiatric practice including, spasticity, dystonia, and related conditions.

The SAE-P is a continuing medical education tool designed to guide both PM&R physicians and residents in their self-directed study. This SAE-P has 60 questions and offers up to 8 credits of CME.

In addition to providing CME credits, SAE-Ps also qualify for the Part II Self Assessment requirement of ABMS Maintenance of Certification™. PM&R physicians are able to assess their comprehension of the self-assessment topic. This provides practicing PM&R physicians with a method for direct self-study, efficient use of clinical reference material, and a comprehensive evaluation indicating their individual knowledge gaps.
