What is the name of the new journal?
PM&R The journal of injury, function and
rehabilitation
PM&R will be the official scientific journal of the American Academy of
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R) beginning in 2009.
What is the scope of the journal?
It will be a monthly, peer reviewed, scholarly publication that advances
education and impacts the specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation
through the timely delivery of clinically relevant and evidence-based research
and review information on various topics.
What topics will be included in the journal?
Acute and chronic musculoskeletal disorders and pain, neurologic
conditions involving the central and peripheral nervous systems, rehabilitation
of impairments associated with disabilities in adults and children, and
neurophysiology and electrodiagnosis. PM&R emphasizes principles of injury,
function and rehabilitation, and is designed to be relevant to practitioners and
researchers in a variety of medical and surgical specialties and rehabilitation
disciplines.
Who can submit?
Submissions are encouraged from physiatrists, neurologists,
rheumatologists, orthopedic surgeons, neurological surgeons, sports medicine
practitioners, pain specialists, clinical psychologists, physical therapists,
occupational therapists, and speech and language pathologists.
What types of articles will be included?
The content of PM&R includes articles that are contemporary and
important to both research and clinical practice. The various sections of the
journal will highlight original research including clinical trials and outcomes
studies, clinically relevant translational science, comprehensive and focused
review articles, case presentations, point/counterpoint discussions and
commentary, literature reviews (including structured abstracts and book
reviews), ethical legal topics, practice management updates, topical study
guides, editorial and opinion pieces, images, clinical pearls and emerging
issues. Feedback from the readership through letters to the editor are
encouraged.
Who is the Academy’s publishing partner?
The Academy is proud to partner with Elsevier Publisher to produce the
premier scientific journal in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
When will the first issue of
PM&R be delivered?
The first issue will be delivered as an Academy member benefit in
January 2009.

Will I continue to receive Archives after 2008?
PM&R will be the official journal of the Academy in 2009 and moving forward.
Archives will not be a member benefit of the Academy after 2008.
Will PM&R compete with other journals in Rehabilitation Medicine?
It may - for some editorial content. A primary goal for PM&R is to
attract high quality clinical and research science manuscripts in physical
medicine and rehabilitation. Any interjournal "competition" should raise the
quality of submitted manuscripts in general, ultimately benefit the AAPM&R
member and further enhance the specialty as a whole.
