Public Webinar: Overview of the CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain

Jun 16, 2016

In response to the troubling opioid epidemic our nation is facing, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) developed and released the CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain in March 2016. Subsequent to the release of the Guideline, CDC has worked with federal and external partners to ensure wide dissemination and uptake of the Guideline recommendations.

In an effort to embed Guideline recommendations within education and training for providers, CDC will be hosting a 7-part webinar series about the Guideline, which will begin on Wednesday, June 22 at 2 pm (ET). The first webinar will provide an overview of the CDC recommendations and when and how opioids should be initiated for chronic pain, how to assess risk and address harms of opioid use, and when and how opioids should be discontinued. Subsequent modules will touch upon the various recommendations in the Guideline. Each 1-hour webinar will be available as a live webinar broadcast and as archived recordings following the live webinars. These are free and offer continuing education credit to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, health educators, and other health care providers. The first 4 webinars are currently scheduled with the others to follow later this year. Learn more about the June 22 webinar here. Registration is not required to participate; however, participants will need to register in a separate system to receive continuing education credits.
