Position Overview

    The Accounting Director is responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and financial integrity. This role involves managing financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and regulatory compliance, as well as collaborating with senior leadership to provide strategic financial insights, optimize processes, and mitigate financial risks.  

Key Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Finance & Investment Committees, provides strategic financial oversight to ensure corporate financial health.
  • Analyzes financial performance and recommends the implementation of procedures/systems to increase efficiency and to realize cost savings.
  • Manages monthly Academy and Foundation financial statements and provides variance explanations including actual vs. budget, prior month and prior year comparisons. 
  • Manages accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash receipts ensuring proper recognition within the accounting system. Recommends procedures for enhanced collection and write-offs of uncollectible accounts.
  • Audits financial transaction coding within the Concur and iMIS software to ensure accuracy.   Recommends policies and procedures to ensure data integrity.
  • Prepares all required monthly journal entries including cash receipt, inventory, deferred comp, tax accrual, etc. for entry into the general ledger. Reconciles all general ledger accounts to the trial balance and prepares adjusting journal entries as needed for month end close.
  • Prepares and processes staff payroll and monthly employee benefit reports.
  • Manages fixed asset tracking ensuring proper recognition of all fixed assets within the accounting records. Tracks capital budget purchases to ensure conformity with policies and approved funding.
  • Manages the audit/tax return process and serves as staff liaison to Audit Committee and auditors. Prepares all required audit/tax return schedules timely and accurately and provides recommendations as necessary to ensure satisfactory resolutions between the auditor and the Academy management.
  • Manages the annual budget process including developing the budget spreadsheets, supplying staff with detailed, historical financial information, and entering monthly budgets into the accounting system.
  • Ensures all significant transactions and financial results are in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and in accordance with Academy policies and procedures.
  • Maintains high professional standards of integrity, ethics, and commitment to the goals of AAPM&R.

AAPM&R Offers

Based on experience and skillsets, the salary range for the Accounting Director role is $115,000 – $135,000/annually.  AAPM&R offers the following benefits:

Requirements                                                                                                                                                                        

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA strongly recommended and/or Masters in Accounting.
  • 8+ years of experience in an accounting position for a not-for-profit organization preferred.
  • Strong background (3+ years) in financial strategy and leadership preferred.
  • Proficiency in technology-based accounting programs, Concur, MIP, and familiarity with association management software (iMIS preferred)
  • Experience summarizing results and producing financial reports required.
  • Experience with data retrieval and reporting systems required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Location: Rosemont, IL (Hybrid)

*Must have access to Rosemont, IL office biweekly for 5-6 days per month, on average.
