On July 27, 2022, AAPM&R and a broad list of national medical societies including the American Medical Association submitted a letter to Congress urging mitigation of conversion factor payment cuts scheduled to take effect January 1, 2023. The cuts include an almost 4.5% cut to the conversion factor, detailed in the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule, as well as a 4% PAYGO reduction and 2% Medicare Sequestration reduction. Late last year, Congress acted to lessen the impact of these cuts for 2022 by delaying some of the cuts for a year, leading to a need for similar action this year. AAPM&R is working on its formal comment to CMS regarding the fee schedule, which will highlight our concerns about physician payment. However, only Congress has the authority to act on these issues. Your Academy is prioritizing a long-term solution to physician payment instability in our advocacy. Physician payment reform was one of the key advocacy areas we discussed during our most recent Hill Day.
