Bruce Gans, MD, to Receive Prestigious Frank H. Krusen, MD, Lifetime Achievement Award

Your Academy is pleased to announce that Bruce Gans, MD, is the 2016 Frank H. Krusen, MD, Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Dr. Gans is receiving the Academy's highest honor, which is given to a member who has provided outstanding and unique contributions to the specialty of PM&R in the areas of patient care, research, education, literary contributions, community service, and involvement in Academy activities.

Dr. Gans served as AAPM&R President in 2005. His generous commitment, extensive service, and continued leadership have been invaluable to the Academy and to the specialty. Please join your Academy and the Awards Committee in congratulating Dr. Gans, who along with the other 2016 AAPM&R award recipients (to be announced soon), will be recognized at the 2016 Annual Assembly.

New Patient Safety Notice—Well Care Compounding Pharmacy Issues Voluntary Statewide Recall

Your Academy receives notices from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) MedWatch program, and other sources when there is a patient safety announcement that could affect PM&R practices. A new patient safety notice is available on Well Care Compounding Pharmacy Issues Voluntary Statewide Recall of All Sterile Compounded Products Due to Lack of Assurance if Sterility Concerns.   • Michael Boninger, MD, director of the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute and professor and chair of the department of PM&R at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, has been named UPMC's vice president for medical affairs for community provider services. Congratulations, Dr. Boninger! Additionally, Gwendolyn Sowa, MD, PhD, will succeed Dr. Boninger as chair of the PM&R department and UPMC Rehabilitation Institute director. Congratulations, Dr. Sowa!   • Brian Murphy, DO, physiatrist at Crozer-Keystone Health System, is leading a new outpatient PM&R center in western Delaware county where he will oversee patient care provided at the Crozer-Keystone Regional Rehabilitation Centers, which offer intensive treatment programs for patients recovering from neurological conditions, orthopedic and spinal cord injuries, trauma, stroke, and more.
