Dec 21, 2023, 13:18 PM by Grace Whittington

The Board of Governors of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (AAPM&R) is very pleased to announce the appointment of Tracy J. Sereiko as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director effective February 1, 2024.

AAPM&R’s CEO and Executive Director Search Committee conducted an extensive national search. “We are delighted with the search process and confident in the leadership impact that Tracy Sereiko will have on the Academy’s trajectory using her deep understanding of the specialty of PM&R and extensive executive experience,” said D.J. Kennedy, MD, FAAPMR, President of AAPM&R.

“It is an honor to have been selected by the Board of Governors as AAPM&R’s next CEO and Executive Director. I am passionate about the vital role of physical medicine and rehabilitation early and across the continuum of patient care. I am excited to work with the Board to advance AAPM&R’s support of membership to thrive today and in the future of healthcare.”

Ms. Sereiko joined AAPM&R staff in 2010 with an extensive background in association and non-profit management. Over the course of the next 13 years at AAPM&R, her responsibilities and impact on the Academy expanded exponentially, most recently in her role as Associate Executive Director of Specialty Engagement and Market Development. During her tenure, she maintained oversight of multidisciplinary teams to drive strategic planning and historical increases in brand awareness of physiatry and AAPM&R. Ms. Sereiko is highly regarded nationally as an innovator and leader with exceptional executive skills as noted by her recent appointment to the Board of Directors of the Council of Medical Specialty Societies. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University, an MBA from Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University and a CAE from the American Society of Association Executives.

Ms. Sereiko will assume her new role as Thomas Stautzenbach steps down as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director after nearly two decades of dedicated service. During his AAPM&R tenure, Mr. Stautzenbach orchestrated a series of strategic interventions resulting in dramatic successes for the Academy and the specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation. The Board of Governors, Academy staff and 10,000+ members thank him for his selfless dedication to the advancement of physiatry and the tremendous successes achieved, for which AAPM&R will forever be indebted.
