The AAPM&R 2017 Compensation Study will launch in May, and we are excited to announce that we will be collaborating with Medscape on the release of select findings. The leading website for physicians, medical students, and other health care providers, Medscape will cover some key findings from the study, increasing awareness of the specialty’s scope and value to health care, and making it visible to medical students, early-career physicians, and practicing physiatrists looking for PM&R compensation data. Medscape is also considering other PM&R-specific information regarding compensation and other professional areas of interest to physiatrists in the future. Learn more.

On Monday, April 17, AAPM&R, along with 24 other specialty organizations, signed a letter in support of the March for Science. The March for Science is the first step of a global movement to defend the vital role science plays in our health, safety, economies, and governments. Read the full letter.

A report released on April 11 by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) oversight and requirements of Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) efforts to reduce improper billing are limited. These findings are important because the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently reported an estimated 11% improper payment rate and $41.1B in improper payments in the Medicare fee-for-service program. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have launched a new course regarding the Quality Payment Program (QPP) Pick Your Pace Program. Learn more.

• Nneka Ifejika, MD, MPH, FAAPMR, director of neurorehabilitation at the University of Texas and graduate of AAPM&R’s Leadership Program, has been selected as the 2017 Distinguished Lecturer for Sam Houston State University. Read more.

• Ameet Nagpal, MD, MS, MEd, FAAPMR, clinical assistant professor, department of anesthesiology at UT Health San Antonio, has been named Dannemiller, Inc.’s new medical director. Read more.

• Joel Stein, MD, FAAPMR, professor of rehabilitation medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and physiatrist-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, has been appointed chairman of the new rehabilitation department at NewYork-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine. Formerly the division of rehabilitation medicine, the new department of rehabilitation medicine was established to further advance NewYork-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine’s programs in rehabilitation medicine.
