BSC/NCIPC Seeking Experts to Serve on an Opioid Workgroup to Provide Input on Possible Updates to the 2016 CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain

Jan 23, 2020, 10:53 AM by User Not Found

At the request of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Board of Scientific Counselors of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (BSC/NCIPC) has established an Opioid Workgroup (OWG). This workgroup will report to the BSC/NCIPC, which is a federal advisory committee. The primary purpose of the OWG is to provide expert input and observations on a possible update or expansion of the CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain —United States, 2016.

The OWG will be comprised of 12–20 people. The chair must be an appointed BSC/NCIPC member, and there must be at least one other OWG member who is an appointed member of the BSC/NCIPC. Remaining members will be external experts who can enhance the expertise on the workgroup to assist the group in completing its tasks. A limited number of ad hoc consultants might also be considered to provide additional expert opinions as needed, and participation of representatives from some other federal agencies is anticipated.

Individuals who wish to be considered for nomination to the workgroup should self-nominate by emailing their current curriculum vitae (CV) and contact information to ncipcbsc@cdc.gov by Tuesday, February 4, 2020. CDC will provide an update to the BSC/NCIPC on the formation of the Opioid Workgroup in Spring, 2020; this public meeting will be announced in the Federal Register.

More information regarding this workgroup can be found here. Please inform AAPM&R at healthpolicy@aapmr.org if you submit a self-nomination, as we would like to stay informed of any members that nominate or are selected to serve on this workgroup.
