In late June, CMS announced the opening of its 2023 Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) Final Score Preview period, during which clinicians will be able to preview their 2023 MIPS final score prior to the release of payment adjustment information in mid-August. The Final Score Preview period helps CMS to ensure that it identifies any potential issues with performance scores before it calculates payment adjustments. As a reminder, 2023 final scores will determine 2025 MIPS payment adjustments.
It is important that physiatrists take advantage of this opportunity to review their MIPS performance scores and reach out to CMS if they see any potential errors or issues. This is also a good opportunity to see which cost measures you or your practice are being scored on since MIPS cost measures are automatically calculated by CMS based on an analysis of administrative claims data. If you are willing to share a list of the cost measures you were scored on in 2023, please reach out to healthpolicy@aapmr.org. Understanding how physiatrists are being impacted by MIPS cost measures will assist in our advocacy efforts.
Additional information can be found through the 2023 Final Score Preview FAQs and the 2023 Final Score Preview Supplemental Reports, available for download at the links provided and through the Quality Payment Program (QPP) Resource Library.
