Your Academy advocates for the PM&R specialty by serving on numerous task forces and committees, including the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates—the principal policy-making body of the American Medical Association. In November, several Academy members and staff traveled to Atlanta to participate in the 2015 AMA House of Delegates Interim Meeting to advocate on public policy issues related to persons with disabling conditions. During the meeting, two PM&R-related resolutions (see below) were brought forth for testimony, and ultimately, a vote to adopt, amend or reject.
Thanks to the compelling testimonies provided by Academy members and other PM&R supporters, the first resolution was recommended for adoption, and the second was also recommended for adoption with a minor amendment–two great “wins” for the specialty.
"As a delegation, we were successful in getting two resolutions passed at the AMA Interim meeting in Atlanta. This means that we have support from our AMA in our fight to protect our patients' access to complex rehabilitation technology wheelchairs and lower extremity prostheses. We are thankful for the help of all of the physiatrists who are Delegates and Alternate Delegates to our AMA from their state or specialty society or section as it requires a team effort to educate the House of Delegates about our issues.“ – Dr. Hubbell, AAPM&R Delegate to AMA
Special thanks to the current AAPM&R - AMA Member Delegation!
