The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Review Committee for Anesthesiology is beginning the process of revising the program requirements for graduate medical education in Pain Medicine. These requirements govern the ACGME-accredited multidisciplinary Pain Fellowships. The Academy has been concerned with the restriction to 1 pain fellowship per institution, and other existing requirements, since they were first introduced. During this review and assessment period, the Academy wants to ensure physiatrists have a strong voice in this process. The Academy will be preparing our formal comments about the currently-approved program requirements, which are posted as "Currently-in-Effect" on the Program Requirements, FAQs and Applications page of the Anesthesiology section of ACGME’s website.
Please send the Academy your thoughts, comments, concerns, and ideas. This input will be compiled and reviewed by the Academy’s Graduate Medical Education Committee in preparing and submitting our formal comments to ACGME. Please send your comments to education@aapmr.org by March 8, 2017.
Additionally, we encourage you to send your individual thoughts and comments to ACGME directly. These should be sent to Pain-Rev@acgme.org by March 23, 2017.
