The combined impact of proposed Physician Fee Schedule cuts, Medicare sequester and PAYGO means that all healthcare professionals are currently facing at least 9% in cuts to Medicare payment, unless Congress acts. Your Academy is working to avert the proposed 2022 Medicare payment cuts.
Most recently, we have joined with organized medicine in a coalition push to House Leadership requesting an extension of the 3.75% increase to the fee schedule. This extension would mitigate cuts resulting from budget neutrality requirements. With strength in numbers, we are joining with others to actively engage Congress about this critical issue.
In addition to the coalition, we have emphasized the importance of this issue in our recent Medicare Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule comment letter submitted on September 13. We also prioritize reimbursement advocacy year-round, including during our virtual Hill Day when volunteer leaders connected with nearly 40 congressional representatives and key offices.
This is a priority area for the Health Policy and Legislation (HP&L) and Reimbursement and Policy Review (RPRC) Committees and other Academy leaders during the remainder of 2021. We will continue to keep you apprised of this evolving situation. Thank you for your Academy membership and to all of our volunteers which allow us to advance these important advocacy efforts.
